Updated Blog Links for SEO
December 18th, 2007Just to let everyone know, if you are having difficulty finding a post on our website, we are moving to a new format that includes our post name in the title. So this means two changes, one is in how the posts are referenced and two is in the names. We are going to select titles that more accurately reflect the content in the post so that search engines are able to figure out what is the most important information in our posts. This is a valuable tip for everyone looking for some easy, cheap seo. Make sure your url has a search term or two that relates to the actual content of the page.

Google using Microformats
October 24th, 2007I recently discovered that microformats are being used on Google Maps. Even though I am a few months behind on this discovery, I think that it will really broaden the use and start a trend of incorporating them websites. We have incorporated them into this blog for about a year now, and we really enjoyed enhancing the Niceville Chamber of Commerce website with them and their events. So it will be interesting to see if/how microformats build momentum.

Safari also has a javascript debugger. You need to enable the Debug menu in safari, which can be done by typing the following into terminal (make sure safari is closed):
% defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Then relaunch safari, and from the debug menu you can open a js console.

Free Tip on Verifying PHP Scripts sans Test Server
July 13th, 2007From your Uncle Leroy …
Use:
php -l *script_name*
..to test the syntax of your scripts.
Obviously, you want to unit test all code, but in a pinch, if some piece of code is difficult to setup the test environment, at least run a sytax check on it. Or use Eclipse with its syntax checking/highlighting turned on.
www = Wild Wild West
June 25th, 2007www - does it mean World Wide Web OR Wild Wild West? It seems awfully wild out here sometimes. I read articles all the time and its so unbridled - the things people say, the types of websites out there. Its definitely exploiting freedom of speech. I want people to have that freedom - but people sometimes implement zero restraint. Anyway, I think “wild wild west” fits “www” more appropriately.
